William Eicholtz

William Eicholtz was recently included in the 30^th Birthday Celebration exhibition, a group show of new work by artists who had been awarded prizes in the Linden Postcard Show. William is a contemporary sculptor. His works often draw on classical themes, metaphors and human and animal forms, with a particular focus on the male nude. His usually large-scale sculptures are infused with humour and theatricality.

We recently caught up with William in his studio to find out more about his practice and the work he has been making recently.

I am essentially a modeller, and the feeling of controlling clay in my hands is always my first direction when realising my ideas in 3 dimensions.

From then, whether cast in bronze, concrete, plaster or left as a ceramic object, is directed by scale or setting. Larger outdoor works require different materials from indoor or temporary works

I have been in a studio that I established many years ago with Louise Rippert, consequently I have gathered many tools and art making materials around me. Initially it looks cluttered, but is a very fertile environment with many unfinished ideas, maquettes and materials with much potential waiting to be explored. It's important to be in this creative environment with inspiration to hand, and equally important to have a wide variety of music and radio to accompany my creative process.

When an artist keeps producing work and putting it into the world through commission or exhibition, new opportunities are always presenting themselves.

I have learned over many years as an artist that all expectations can change in a flash of opportunity and inspiration. The important thing is to continue producing artworks and sharing your unique vision.

This collaborative, community-driven project invited people to submit a drawing of their Wellness Deity, a being that has a special empowering or protective power.

Natasha Bieniek

Natasha Bieniek is best-known for her miniature oil paintings. Bieniek’s paintings are meticulous in their execution and demand close inspection. They link the ancient tradition of 16th century miniature painting with present-day image culture.

This exhibition brings together a suit of recent works that have not been seen together before, including Bieniek’s stand out painting, Biophilia, which was the winner of the Wynne Prize in 2015.
