What do basketballs and fire extinguishers have in common?
You can play with both at Ash Keating’s studio! Well, maybe not the fire extinguishers.
That’s what we discovered when our Linden Contemporaries visited Ash in his studio on a cool autumn afternoon, prior to him changing over
the works in his exhibition Duality at Linden New Art in March.
Ash gave our guests an exclusive preview of the works before they were displayed at Linden and a behind-the-scenes tour of his studio
while discussing how his painting practice had changed during the months of lockdown in Melbourne. Before we ventured home, the
challenge was set to the first guest to land the basketball through the hoop – congratulations to Biheng Zhang for taking home the
honour and a bottle of wine to celebrate with.
Remember having dinner with friends, and great conversations flowing?
It finally came back for us with our In Conversation Dinner with exhibiting artists Ash Keating, Troy Emery and Nicholas Folland in April.
Originally planned to coincide with the exhibition openings, we quickly had to postpone the dinner as Melbourne went into a snap
lockdown.
That didn’t deter our guests – we had a sell-out event even though we had to wait nearly two months to deliver it!
Nicholas was unable to fly back from South Australia for the rescheduled dinner but thanks to the wonders of technology, he was able to join us via Zoom to kick off the conversation with Melinda. Following a delicious dinner, Melinda hosted a lively conversation between Ash and Troy, with guests encouraged to participate – as there were prizes on the night to entice them. It was also the second last event for our Chair, Jeremy Blackshaw and a fitting way for him to thank our guests and supporters. We look forward to seeing you at the next In Conversation Dinner coming later in the year.
Linden Contemporaries is a unique donor program and takes supporters behind the scenes and into:
Each event is different to the next, so things never get boring and there is always ample time for warm conversations and new insights.

At various times throughout the day my hands and feet tingle. Nothing life threatening or anything, but
noticeable enough to stop me in my tracks. It’s a sensation that runs along the surface of my skin...
