A One-off re-staging of Bernhard Sachs’ Legendary Dinner Performance
In 2004, Bernhard Sachs invited 24 guests to a gathering unlike any other—an intimate dinner party within his exhibition The Polish
Game at
the artist-run space, Ocular Lab, in Brunswick East. Seated amongst Sachs’ wall-sized charcoal drawings, guests shared a menu of sourdough
bread and butter, rich meat cassoulet, lettuce salad, cheese and biscuits, and French wines. At night’s end, the remnants of the meal
were left to decay in the gallery over the weekend, becoming part of the work itself.
Now, twenty years later, we are re-staging this legendary performance in Linden’s gallery space, as part of the exhibition Bernhard Sachs: After History. This is a unique opportunity to relive Sachs’ vision: to share a home-cooked meal and converse about art, philosophy, and life.
In addition to taking part in this living artwork, guests will also take home an artwork by Sachs. With the generous support of Sachs’ estate, all proceeds will go back into Linden’s exhibition program, reflecting the late artist’s own commitment to supporting art and living artists.
